What is WordPress?
WordPress is a powerful Open Source blogging application that allows anyone the ability to publish any type of content to the internet. WordPress is free software offered by www.wordpress.org.
Do I need to have WordPress to use these free templates?
Yes, these templates, or themes, do not work with other blogging platforms, and they do not work if you are having WordPress host your blog for free (example: yourblog.wordpress.com). You must have downloaded WordPress and have your blog set up at with a hosting provider to have either the free templates or our custom designed themes work.
How do I install a theme?
This is an easy 2-step process. First, you upload the theme to your web host, then you select the theme from your site's WordPress Admin. If your blog is free and run through WordPress (examples: yourblog.wordpress.com), WordPress does not allow you to upload and use these free blog template themes.
1. Uploading the theme
- Download the theme files and extract the files it contains. You need to preserve the directory (folder and file) structure in the archive when extracting these files.
- Using an FTP client to access your host web server, create a directory (folder) to contain your theme in the wp-content/themes directory provided by WordPress. For example, a theme named Test should be in wp-content/themes/test.
- Upload the theme files to the new directory on your host server.
- Follow the instructions in step 2 for selecting the new theme.
2. Selecting the theme
- Log in to your site's WordPress Administration Panel.
- Select the "Presentation" submenu, then select the "Themes" tab.
- From the Available Themes section, click on theme title (or theme screenshot) for the theme you wish to activate.
- To view the new look, click View Site at the top of the Panel's screen.
Why should I change my template or theme?

Do you offer customer support for these free templates?
No, we do not provide support for our free templates. These templates are provided as a courtesy, however, WordPress has a very strong support community that can most likely answer any questions or problems you may encounter. Visit the WordPress FAQ at faq.wordpress.com.
Where can I go for help with WordPress?
Wordpress has an amazing support forum, www.wordpress.org/support, or you can visit their FAQ section at faq.wordpress.com.
Will you release new versions of a theme with new releases of WordPress?
These versions will not be updated as WordPress updates, so be aware that updating to newer versions of Wordpress might break your free template design.
What do I need to set up a blog?
Since blogs are just Web pages, all you really need to set up a blog is a computer, an internet connection and space on a Web hosting server for your pages. You can also use many of the blog providers that allow you to set up a blog for free on their servers. You simply go to their site, choose a name for your blog, create a URL, choose a template and start blogging! Blogger is a good free option and Wordpress is another popular hosted option.
If I have my own Web server or want my blog on my domain, what tools are right for me?
There are a number of blog tools that work with the server you already have. WordPress is the most popular, it's free, and has great functionality and support forums. You can download it to your hosting account and learn more about WordPress at www.WordPress.org.
What is the difference between a blog and a website?
Most websites are coded in HTML. A website coded in HTML allows for a lot of flexibility as far as the design is concerned, and you can integrate other types of technology to the website like Flash or Javascript fairly easily. Blogs are coded differently are more limited as far as the way the design can lay out since all blogs have four main sections - the header, the footer, the sidebar and the main content - however, the content on a blog is very easy to change, and are much more effective for a business that plans on changing their site often or wants their blog to be their main page. There are blogs that look and function more like what seem like a regular website that are built entirely on WordPress - this is a good example of one. However, most companies add a blog page to their website rather than build their entire site on blog software.
What if I want my blog to match and be integrated into my existing website or I want my blog design to be totally unique instead of a template?
Good news (and shameless plug)! Logoworks now offers custom blog design and coding starting at $449. Visit here for more information.
How will blogging help my business?
Blogging allows a business to communicate directly with customers in a way they've never been able to do before. It allows a business to share expertise and position itself as a leader in its space, show its human side, as well as reap the benefits of improved SEO rankings since the search engines love blogs.
How do I post to my blog?
Posting to a blog is not much different or harder than composing an email. All of the blogging providers have great tutorials and active forums that allow you to get almost any question answered. Once your blog is set up and you are logged in to your blog, you click on a button that says "compose" or "write" and follow the instructions from there.
How much time will blogging take/how much time should I plan to invest in my blog?
This depends entirely on how you plan to use it and the nature of your blog, but the general rule is that you should post at least a couple of times a week to keep your blog fresh. Once you get good at working in your blog, posting can take as little as five minutes, or you can create entries that take hours to put together - it just depends on the content you are sharing. You should plan to spend initially a few hours a week learning the ins and outs of blogging, creating posts, and tagging your entries correctly, as well as commenting on and linking to other blogs.
How do I know what to write about?
What do your customers want to know about your business or your industry? What questions do they ask you that aren't readily answered on your website? If you are an accountant, blog about the most common questions your clients have. If you are a hair stylist, you can write about tips for hair care. If you are a cabinet maker, show projects you have done and why you felt it was successful, or the newest trends in cabinetry and kitchens. Focus on your expertise, share your expertise, publish announcements about your business (like a new location, a new big client, or a class you are teaching) and make it a place that illustrates your capabilities and what it's like to work with you.
What if I am not a good writer?
Don't worry too much about your writing - what's most important in blogging is that you come across as authentic. Your writing will also improve the more you blog. If you're worried about spelling or grammar, you can always write your entries in a Word document and then cut and paste it into your blog.
How do I promote and drive traffic to my blog?
First, let your customers know you have a blog by calling attention to it in whatever communications you send out. Emailing your customer list when you start the blog is the best way to quickly have people start visiting. Another great way is to start reading and commenting on other people's or company's blogs and developing relationships with other bloggers.
